Following reports of unsupervised teenagers inside, authorities have restricted access to an abandoned shopping center in the Vsevolozhsky district of the Leningrad region. The regional prosecutor’s office announced the action on Monday, June 2nd.
The Vsevolozhsk city prosecutor’s office launched an investigation after the reports surfaced.
The investigation revealed that the shopping center is owned by an organization potentially facing bankruptcy.
Responding to the findings, the administration of the Murino settlement, along with the company’s bankruptcy trustee, took action to secure the premises. This included closing off all entrances to the building and cleaning the surrounding area.
The abandoned structure may be the four-story Zarechye food market, located at 5V Zarechnaya Street, which reportedly began operations in 2021 and has had unrestricted access since last year.
This incident follows a recent tragedy in the Volosovsky district, where two young girls, ages 11 and 12, died in an abandoned building in the village of Terpilitsy after a concrete slab collapsed on them while they were filming a video.
