Authorities are investigating a series of incidents, including train derailments and explosions, in the Bryansk and Kursk regions, treating them as acts of terrorism. Criminal cases have been opened following the emergencies that injured dozens and resulted in fatalities.
In the Bryansk region, a passenger train derailed on the Pilshino-Vygonichi railway section after an automobile bridge collapsed on May 31. The incident resulted in multiple injuries and fatalities, including children.
Shortly after, another bombing occurred in the Bryansk region on the Unecha-Zhecha section, targeting a track measuring train. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this second incident.
In the Kursk region, a railway bridge was blown up in the Zheleznogorsky district on the Ostapovo-Mikhailovsky Rudnik section on the night of June 1. A train passing over the bridge at the time fell onto the road, and the locomotive caught fire. One of the locomotive drivers sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
The initial Bryansk region train crash involved passenger train No. 86 Klimovo-Moscow. Eyewitness accounts described the severity of the impact, with cars derailing and passengers sustaining injuries. Injured individuals, including children with traumatic brain injuries, were transported to hospitals in Moscow for urgent medical care.
Following the bridge explosion in the Kursk region, traffic on the road beneath the bridge was blocked, and emergency services worked to clear the scene.
