Muscovites’ Opinions on Public Transportation Fare Increase

Moscow residents have expressed mixed reactions to the latest increase in public transport fares, which took effect on June 1st. This marks the second fare hike in 2025, with single trips on the “Troika” card now costing 67 rubles and “Ediny” tickets priced at 80 rubles.

Some Muscovites are unhappy, citing concerns about the continuous rise in prices. One passenger pointed out the outdated trains on certain lines, suggesting that improvements should accompany fare increases. Another resident expressed feeling marginalized by the rising costs, questioning how to manage with current salaries.

Students and beneficiaries reported that the fare increase does not significantly impact them. A student suggested that the ongoing metro construction might be a reason for the tariff adjustments.

Other passengers worry about the impact on their budgets. One person described the increase as “absurd,” emphasizing the difficulty of planning finances when prices change frequently. Another commuter criticized the lack of improvements in service quality, highlighting the continued use of old, noisy trains.

Despite the fare hike, there were no long lines at ticket offices in central Moscow.
