Children Injured in Bryansk Bridge Collapse to be Transferred to Moscow

Children injured in the collapse of a road bridge in the Bryansk region will be transported to Moscow for specialized medical care. The incident, which occurred on the night of June 1, involved the derailment of the Klimov – Moscow passenger train after the bridge collapsed as the train was passing underneath.

The accident resulted in seven fatalities and injuries to 71 people, according to reports from the morning of June 1. Rescuers worked through the night to extract individuals trapped within the wreckage. Tragically, it was reported that a one-year-old child was lost at the scene.

According to the Moscow health department, a five-month-old infant will be airlifted to the Research Institute of Emergency Pediatric Surgery and Trauma – Dr. Roshal’s Clinic by a disaster medicine service air ambulance.

Additionally, a seven-year-old child with a traumatic brain injury and a closed fracture of the shoulder will also be admitted to the same clinic. A four-year-old child with a traumatic brain injury, accompanied by their mother, will be taken to the Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital.

A reserve train, No. 902, carrying passengers from the derailed train has departed from Bryansk and is en route to Moscow. Upon arrival at the Kievsky railway station, multiple ambulances and intensive care units will be on standby. Information desks have been set up to assist arriving passengers.

Russian Railways has announced that 2.2 million rubles will be paid to the families of the deceased passengers of train No. 86 Klimov – Moscow. The company has also pledged to provide free medical treatment and rehabilitation to the injured at Russian Railways medical facilities.

The Governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, stated that the cause of the bridge collapse near the Vygonichi station was an explosion. The Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated a criminal investigation into the incident, as confirmed by official representative Svetlana Petrenko.
