Filming of Military Drama “Baltic Sea” Commences in Moscow and St. Petersburg

Filming for the new military drama “Baltic Sea,” based on real events during World War II, began yesterday in Moscow. The production will also utilize locations in St. Petersburg, including the Griboyedov Canal embankment, Ostrovsky Square, areas near Catherine Square and the Alexandrinsky Theater, and the English Embankment featuring the Baron Stieglitz mansion and the Palace of Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich.

The plot centers on the sinking of the German submarine U-250 by the Soviet submarine MO-103 in Vyborg Bay on July 30, 1944. The German submarine was carrying secret T-5 torpedoes with acoustic homing capabilities.

A tense race ensues between intelligence services, submariners, and saboteurs as both sides vie for control of the torpedoes. Soviet sailors and scientists in besieged Leningrad urgently work to recover the torpedoes and develop countermeasures to shift the naval war’s balance.

Kronstadt, a location with historical significance, is seeing renewed development and becoming a hub for cultural and social activities. A memorial dedicated to Soviet and German sailors who died in naval battles during World War II was established in Kronstadt in 1996. The memorial serves as a symbol of remembrance for those lost on both sides of the conflict.
