Islam Vagabov, a 33-year-old MMA fighter known as Yakuza, has been remanded into custody by the Vsevolozhsk City Court of the Leningrad Region, facing two counts of hooliganism. The charges stem from two separate incidents that occurred in April and June.
According to the investigation, on April 18, Vagabov allegedly shot at a PAZ bus from a car in the Nevsky district of St. Petersburg. Then, on June 5, he is accused of punching a man and a woman in the head in Kudrovo. Authorities detained Vagabov near his residence on Evropeysky Prospekt in Kudrovo.
During the court hearing, Vagabov expressed his opposition to being taken into custody. His lawyer clarified the court’s inquiry, asking him if he wanted to avoid jail, to which Vagabov responded negatively. He then attempted to explain the circumstances of the incidents to the court.
The prosecutor’s office had previously overturned a criminal case initiated by the Investigative Committee following the release of a video depicting the fight. Initially, the investigation classified Vagabov’s actions as hooliganism related to resisting a person preventing a breach of public order. However, the prosecutor’s office deemed this classification unlawful.
The police departments of the Nevsky and Vsevolozhsky districts initiated two separate hooliganism cases, one related to the bus shooting and the other to the fight in Kudrovo. These cases have now been consolidated into a single investigation. Vagabov is currently charged with hooliganism involving the use of objects as weapons and hooliganism involving violence against citizens. The Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Vsevolozhsky district is handling the investigation.
