The development of the E-Neva electric vehicle by the Almaz-Antey concern has been temporarily suspended. First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, announced the decision at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The project was frozen to allow the company to concentrate on its primary objectives.
In March, Mikhail Podvyaznikov, Deputy General Director of JSC “Concern VKO “Almaz-Antey” and head of the Obukhov Plant, indicated that civilian transport production had been assigned to a separate entity, JSC “Romanov,” which manufactures BAZ trucks. The team previously working on the E-Neva was also transferred to this new division.
The E-Neva, an electric crossover, is a product of the Almaz-Antey defense complex and was developed in collaboration with St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. It marked the Obukhov Plant’s inaugural venture into civilian automotive projects. A prototype of the E-Neva was showcased to Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2023.
