Thunderstorm Averted: Only Rain Reached St. Petersburg City Center

A thunderstorm initially predicted to hit St. Petersburg on the evening of June 18th dissipated before reaching the city center, resulting only in rainfall. According to St. Petersburg’s chief meteorologist, Alexander Kolesov, radar detected a thunderstorm near the city center around 9 PM.

However, the thunderstorm weakened and broke apart by 8:50 PM, with only rain reaching areas like Nevsky Prospekt. Kolesov shared a photo taken at 8:40 PM showing the initial thunderstorm formation.

Yandex Weather noted that this particular thunderstorm was the only one observed in the entire Leningrad region.

Prior to the event, the Ministry of Emergency Situations had issued warnings to St. Petersburg residents about potential worsening weather and the possibility of a thunderstorm.
