A surgeon from Nizhny Tagil is facing charges after a patient died following a surgical procedure performed at the patient’s home. Sergey Pavlov, a doctor with 30 years of experience, is accused of causing the death of a woman with cirrhosis who required fluid removal from her abdomen.

The regional investigation committee stated that deficiencies in the medical care provided by the surgeon were directly linked to the patient’s death.

According to Pavlov’s lawyer, Viktor Masterenko, the operation was conducted at home due to extreme necessity. Pavlov reportedly realized the patient was experiencing internal bleeding a day after the procedure and called for an ambulance. The woman was then hospitalized but could not be saved.

Pavlov potentially faces up to three years in prison if convicted of causing death by negligence. The case is expected to be submitted to court in the coming days. He was not suspended during the investigation and has continued to practice medicine.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone who knew the deceased woman to contact them.
