Russian Railways will pay 2.2 million rubles to the families of each person killed in the Bryansk region train incident, the company’s press service announced on June 1. The incident occurred on the Vygonichi-Pilshino railway section after a road bridge collapsed, causing debris to fall onto a passing passenger train.
According to reports, the collapse happened on the night of June 1. Authorities have stated that the bridge structures were blown up. The Investigative Committee is currently investigating the incident.
Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported that seven people died and 47 were injured. The injured were hospitalized, with three individuals, including a child, in serious condition.
Separately, authorities reported a similar incident in the Kursk region on the same night. Bridge structures were also reportedly blown up, causing a freight train to fall from the bridge. In the Kursk region incident, the driver and two assistants sustained injuries.
