Gazprom Neft and the Association of Specialists and Enterprises in the Field of Processing Oil and Fat Waste (APMO) have agreed to collaborate on developing infrastructure for producing environmentally friendly marine and aviation fuel in Russia. The agreement was signed by Levan Kadagidze of Gazprom Neft and Kristina Ten of APMO.
The partnership aims to establish a comprehensive system for collecting and processing plant-based raw materials to create low-carbon biofuel. This system will involve gathering used oils and fats from various sources, including catering establishments, agricultural complexes, and livestock facilities.
The collected raw materials will be utilized in the production of marine fuel for use in the Baltic and Black Seas. Furthermore, the raw materials will serve as a component in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), an aviation fuel designed to reduce carbon emissions. Gazprom Neft’s technology center is currently developing this product.
Levan Kadagidze emphasized that the agreement aims to create an efficient supply chain, from bio-raw material collection to the production of the final biofuel product. Kristina Ten believes that this partnership with a significant industrial entity will stimulate growth within the oil and fat raw material processing industry.
The agreement was announced in conjunction with the XXVIII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), scheduled for June 18-21, 2025. The forum’s theme is “Common values are the foundation of growth in a multipolar world,” and it anticipates 20,000 participants from 140 countries and territories. The plenary session, featuring Russian President Vladimir Putin, will take place on June 20.
