Changes to Ninth-Graders’ Russian Language OGE Grades in St Petersburg

Ninth-graders in St. Petersburg experienced a decline in their Russian language OGE (Main State Exam) grades after the initial results were published. Parents expressed outrage after discovering the changes on June 17, following the release of grades on June 16.

The St. Petersburg Committee on Education confirmed the grade changes were due to a technical failure during the preliminary release of results on the ege.spb.ru portal.

The official OGE results in Russian language were sent to schools on June 18.

Parents reported that their children were initially happy with their grades, only to find them lowered the next day. Some parents speculated that regional experts used outdated rules during the initial check, while federal specialists later revised the grades based on current standards.

The St. Petersburg Committee on Education clarified that only regional experts checked the ninth-graders’ work, and there was no re-check involved. The OGE in Russian language took place on June 9.
