Bridge Collapse Near Vygonichi Station in Bryansk Region Caused by Bombing

A bridge near the Vygonichi station in the Bryansk region collapsed due to a bombing, as officially announced by the governor, Alexander Bogomaz, on June 1. The incident occurred late at night on May 31, leading to significant damage and casualties.

The collapse resulted in vehicles and bridge structures falling onto the railway track below, impacting a passenger train that was passing by at the time.

Tragically, two engine drivers were killed immediately when a large reinforced concrete section collapsed onto the locomotive. Preliminary reports indicate that seven people, including train crew and passengers, have died. Approximately 70 individuals sustained injuries, among them three children, with the youngest being around 8 months old.

Prior to the official statement, media reports had already suggested that the bombing was the primary cause of the bridge collapse, even detailing the number and placement of explosive charges. Initially, authorities had only referred to the incident as “illegal interference in the work of transport infrastructure.”
