A bridge collapse in the Kursk region of Russia caused a freight train to derail, resulting in injuries to the locomotive crew and the blockage of a major highway. The incident occurred on the Trosna-Kalinovka highway in the Zheleznogorsk district as a freight locomotive was crossing the bridge.
Part of the train fell onto the highway below, and the locomotive subsequently caught fire. Emergency services were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.
According to initial reports, one of the locomotive engineers suffered leg injuries. The entire train crew has been hospitalized and is receiving medical attention.
Traffic on the highway beneath the collapsed bridge has been halted, and diversions are in place. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the bridge collapse. All emergency services are on-site, addressing the situation.
The remaining train cars are currently situated on the railway platform. This incident follows a similar bridge collapse in the Bryansk region on June 1, where a passenger train derailed, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
