The historical drama “Prince Andrei” (16+) has been named the most anticipated series at the Pilot series festival. The show, set in 12th-century Ancient Rus’, is scheduled to be released before the end of the year on the “Russia 1” channel, “Kinopoisk” and the “Smotrim” media platform.
The series follows Andrei Bogolyubsky’s return from Byzantium and his father Yuri Dolgoruky’s reluctance to relinquish power. Yuri sends Andrei to rule in Suzdal, where the young prince intends to establish a new Russian center, facing opposition from his father, the old order, and boyars. The series also explores the love story between Andrei and his first wife, Ulita.
The cast includes Alexander Baluev as Yuri Dolgoruky, who stated that he likes “to take such characters down from the pedestal a bit and bring them closer to the people.” Sergei Bezrukov plays the negative role of the boyar Kuchko. Alexander Golubev plays Prince Andrei, and Aglaya Shilovskaya plays Ulita.
Filming for the eight-episode first season concluded in February. Viewers have already expressed diverse opinions on the series, with some praising the Slavic aesthetics, epic battle scenes, and cast, while others voiced concerns about historical accuracy.
