Drivers are reporting that small stones are hitting car windows on a section of the P-354 highway near Yekaterinburg, specifically between the Tyumen highway and the village of Bolshebrusyanskoye. This is reportedly the second year in a row this has happened.
Road work is currently underway on the highway, and drivers believe the flying stones are related to the contractor’s activities.
One driver, Vladimir, claims the repair work is using the same faulty method as last year, where a thin layer of asphalt is applied to the existing road surface without removing the old layer. He believes this causes the new layer to easily come loose and scatter.
Other drivers say stones also fly from oncoming vehicles, especially during overtaking maneuvers, scattering from the center of the road and hitting windshields. One driver mentioned experiencing this issue last year.
Uralupravtodor, which is responsible for the maintenance of the federal P-354 highway, has been asked for comment on the situation. Last year, the Chelyabinsk construction company “Forward” repaired this section of the road, and the work received complaints about its quality.
