Two Drones Intercepted En Route to Moscow

Moscow and surrounding regions experienced a series of drone attacks, resulting in airport closures and one reported injury. Air defense systems were activated to repel the aerial threats.

Fifty-one drones were reportedly shot down over the Belgorod region within a three and a half hour period, according to the Ministry of Defense. These drones were intercepted between 8:00 PM and 11:30 PM Moscow time.

A woman in the Shebekinsky district of the Belgorod region sustained injuries when a drone exploded on the grounds of a private residence, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. She was treated for barotrauma.

Airports in Kaluga, Tambov, and Nizhny Novgorod temporarily halted operations during the night. Moscow’s air space was also targeted, with air defense forces intercepting two drones flying towards the city, announced Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

All four of Moscow’s major airports – Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, and Sheremetyevo – briefly suspended operations but resumed normal activity within an hour.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any drone sightings. The recommended procedure for encountering a drone includes immediately contacting emergency services at 112. Callers should provide their name, the location of the drone, a description of the drone’s appearance and behavior (hovering or flying, silhouette, flashing lights), and any sounds it is making. It is crucial to leave the area and warn others if possible. If a drone is found on the ground, individuals should not approach or touch it, but instead, report the finding to 112.
