Two Drones Intercepted En Route to Moscow

Two drones were shot down by air defense systems while approaching Moscow, according to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The incident occurred amidst a night of widespread drone activity, which prompted temporary closures of several airports in the Moscow region and other cities.

Airports in Kaluga, Tambov, and Nizhny Novgorod had temporarily suspended operations due to the drone attacks. Shortly after, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, and Sheremetyevo, all four of Moscow’s major airports, also experienced brief operational suspensions before resuming normal activity.

Earlier in the evening, the Ministry of Defense reported that 51 drones were downed over the Belgorod region within a three-and-a-half-hour period. These drones were intercepted between 8:00 PM and 11:30 PM Moscow time.

In the Shebekinsky district of the Belgorod region, a woman sustained injuries when a drone exploded on the grounds of a private residence. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed that the woman suffered barotrauma and was taken to receive medical attention.

Authorities are reminding citizens that if a drone is spotted, the most important action is to immediately call 112. When reporting, individuals should provide their name and address, a detailed description of the drone (including whether it is hovering or flying, its silhouette, and any flashing lights), and any sounds it is making. People are also advised to leave the area and warn others if possible. If a drone is found on the ground, it should not be approached or touched; instead, 112 should be called immediately to report the discovery.
