A bridge collapse in the Bryansk region on the night of June 1 caused a train traveling from Klimovo to Moscow to derail, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident, with initial reports suggesting “illegal interference in the operation of transport” as a possible cause.
Seven people have died, including the engine driver, and 33 others were injured, including three children. One child is being transported to Moscow by air ambulance. A one-year-old child was initially reported missing at the scene, prompting an extensive search by Emergencies Ministry employees.
Nearly 200 rescuers are working to cut open the train cars and extract people. Dozens of medics are providing on-site medical assistance. Passengers who did not require medical attention were initially taken to a temporary accommodation center, but have since been transferred to a specially organized train to Moscow, where they will receive further medical and psychological support.
The incident has caused significant disruption, with a multi-kilometer traffic jam forming on the A-240 highway, which remains blocked. Rescuers are utilizing 60 units of equipment, including engineering machinery and cranes.
An operational headquarters has been established by regional authorities, along with additional headquarters at Russian Railways and the Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Emergency Situations have established a hotline at +7 (495) 249-03-09 for information related to the incident.
