A criminal case has been initiated against a 24-year-old St. Petersburg resident after she allegedly burned her passport on camera and posted the video online. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the incident occurred recently, and the woman was promptly detained by law enforcement.
An acquaintance who was present during the passport burning has also been detained and is considered a suspect in the criminal case. The police are currently conducting a preliminary investigation to determine the full extent of their involvement.
The incident has drawn attention from public figures, including the head of the “League of Safe Internet,” who commented on the blogger’s apparent lack of remorse in a video taken at the police station.
This is not an isolated incident, as another similar case occurred in St. Petersburg recently, where a woman allegedly defiled her passport, and her friend filmed the act. In that case, both individuals were detained and subsequently placed in a pre-trial detention center, facing charges of hooliganism and desecration of the Russian coat of arms.
