Train Derails in Bryansk Region After Bridge Collapse

A passenger train derailed in the Bryansk region of Russia on the night of June 1, resulting in at least seven fatalities and numerous injuries. The incident occurred when a bridge collapsed beneath the railway as the train traveled from Klimovo to Moscow.

Initial reports indicate that over 30 people were injured, with two in serious condition. Emergency services, including more than 180 rescuers, are on-site working to extract individuals from the wreckage.

The Moscow Railway stated the derailment was caused by “illegal interference with transport operations,” suggesting external factors contributed to the bridge collapse. Debris from the collapsed bridge impacted the train, leading to the derailment.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Transport Prosecutor’s Office is performing an inspection, and Russian Railways has established a special operational headquarters led by its head, Oleg Belozerov.
