First Watermelons Appear in Yekaterinburg Shops: A Price and Origin Overview

The first watermelons have appeared in shops and stalls in Yekaterinburg, with prices varying depending on the store and origin. A journalist from E1.RU visited several hypermarkets to investigate the availability and cost of this summer fruit.

The lowest price found was 60 rubles per kilogram at a kiosk selling watermelons from Uzbekistan. Sellers there predict prices will fall to around 25 rubles per kilogram by August.

In “Hyperbola” on Vainer Street, Iranian watermelons are being sold for 79 rubles per kilogram, with the average whole watermelon costing between 500 and 700 rubles. “Kirovsky” on Zhukov Street is selling watermelons for 79.9 rubles per kilogram, described as sweet but with no country of origin listed.

“Pyaterochka” has varying prices, with one store on Anton Valek Street selling watermelons for 149.9 rubles per kilogram (167.9 rubles without a discount), while another on Olympic Embankment offers them for 89.9 rubles per kilogram (119 rubles each without a discount).

“Magnit” on Anton Valek Street is selling “Ecuador” variety watermelons for 99 rubles per kilogram.

At “Monetka”, the price is 89.9 rubles per kilogram in the store on Sheinkman Street, but the origin is unknown. Another “Monetka” location on Vainer Street sells watermelons for 100 rubles per kilogram, reportedly from Turkey.
