Ay Yola’s new song, featuring Dima Bilan, incorporates the Nart epic hero Sosruko, also known as Soslan, alongside the Bashkir mythology figure Homay. The collaboration blends Russian and Kabardian languages, highlighting cultural connections.
The verse about Sosruko, a hero of courage and valor in Caucasus folklore, was written by Anzor Apshev. Apshev aimed to mirror the symbolism of female wisdom and strength represented by Homay with the male courage embodied by Sosruko.
Sosruko, a figure with varied depictions across different myths, is portrayed as the son of a shepherd. He is known for his strength and valor, as well as his acquisition of fire for humanity, akin to the Greek mythological figure Prometheus.
Similar to the Greek myth of Achilles, Sosruko was invulnerable except for his legs. This vulnerability was exploited by an enemy, leading to his demise.
Ay Yola continues to release songs from their album, including “Yola,” which explores the Bashkir epic. The group previously performed with Dima Bilan at the MUZ-TV awards.
