Chita Surgeons Provide Relief to Rural District in Rotational Visit Project

A team of surgeons from Chita traveled to Petrovsk-Zabaykalsky to provide much-needed medical assistance to residents of the district and neighboring areas. This trip was part of an ongoing project aimed at addressing the shortage of medical personnel in rural areas. The visiting doctors performed surgeries, offered consultations, and shared their expertise with local healthcare providers.

The initiative aims to alleviate the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances to receive specialized medical care. Many residents of Petrovsk-Zabaykalsky and the surrounding Krasnochikoisky district had been forced to seek treatment in Ulan-Ude or Chita due to a lack of surgeons in their local hospital. The arrival of the team of specialists brought relief and allowed patients to receive timely and convenient care closer to home.

The team consisted of experienced surgeons, including Viktor Cherepanov, Anton Krasilnikov, anesthesiologist Anastasia Baranova, and resident doctor Mikhail Kurbatov. They performed a variety of procedures, including laparoscopic surgeries, which offer faster recovery times and reduced hospital stays. The visiting surgeons were able to assist 10-15 patients during their week-long stay.

Local healthcare officials expressed their gratitude for the support provided by the Chita surgeons. Andrey Onokhov, acting head physician, highlighted the positive impact of the project on patients and the potential for attracting young doctors to rural areas. The program is designed to encourage resident doctors to gain experience in district hospitals, with the hope that they will consider practicing in those areas long-term.

The visiting surgeons also noted the challenges and rewards of working in a rural setting. They acknowledged the importance of providing quality medical care to underserved populations and expressed their commitment to supporting the project’s goals. The program is not only to solve an immediate need but also to develop a potential long-term solution.
