A resident of Yarovoe in the Altai Krai region of Siberia was surprised to discover a strange insect with features of both a grasshopper and a crayfish. The unusual creature was found crawling near a home, prompting the observer to describe it as a “monster.”
According to a Novosibirsk biologist, the insect is a mole cricket, a species that typically lives underground and is rarely seen above ground.
While mole crickets are not poisonous, the biologist warned that they can bite if handled. They are also known to make cricket-like sounds and are capable of short, low-altitude flights. When threatened, they may release a brown liquid similar to that of a grasshopper.
This incident follows a report from June where several people in the southern region were hospitalized after being bitten by poisonous spiders, highlighting the presence of potentially harmful creatures in the area.
