Robots Are Being Actively Introduced Into Many Areas

Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to reshape the Russian workforce, but experts predict a gradual transition rather than a sudden displacement of human workers. Concerns about widespread job losses due to AI automation have been raised, yet industry leaders and analysts believe the integration of AI will be a decades-long process, allowing for adaptation and the emergence of new roles.

Dmitry Sergienkov, CEO of HeadHunter, estimates that 30-40% of Russia’s able-bodied population is engaged in tasks that could be automated by AI. This could lead to an increase in AI-generated content, potentially impacting the reliability of information and making it harder to identify qualified professionals.

Despite concerns, AI is already being implemented in some sectors. In Blagoveshchensk, for example, AI has been appointed as legal counsel, significantly reducing document processing time. Igor Radchenko, Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Entrepreneurs, reported that AI has helped his office handle complaints much faster, possibly the first instance of AI being used by officials in Russia. The reason is said to be a shortage of personnel in the region.

Experts do not believe AI will lead to a “Terminator” or “Matrix”-style scenario. Instead, AI will take over routine tasks that do not require creativity. Anatoly Baranov, from the trade union “New Labor”, questions the value of automating “useless work” and suggests focusing on tasks where human intelligence is essential.

Alexey Zakharov, founder and president of SuperJob, emphasizes that the integration of AI will be a gradual process, spanning decades. He believes that people will adapt by changing professions and acquiring new skills. He anticipates slower adoption in high-risk areas such as medicine and transport due to strict regulations and safety concerns.

While the labor market will adapt to AI, a sudden replacement of workers is not expected. The process will be long and the labor market will adjust gradually. New jobs and services will emerge, requiring people to learn how to work with AI systems and create new products.
