Ellada Agamalieva, a 10-year-old wrestler from Arkhangelsk, has achieved significant recognition for her victories in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling. With 50 wins under her belt, Ellada’s videos showcasing her skills against male opponents have gone viral, sparking discussions about gender roles in sports.
Recently, Ellada participated in the show “Super Ninja. Children” competing for a prize of 2 million rubles. Her mother, Sabina Agamalieva, shared insights into Ellada’s journey, including her sudden fame, behind-the-scenes experiences, and future aspirations. Ellada’s ultimate dream is to become an Olympic champion and a coach.
Ellada comes from a large, sports-oriented family with two sisters and five brothers. While her siblings pursue other martial arts like taekwondo and Greco-Roman wrestling, Ellada initially showed interest in rhythmic gymnastics before gravitating towards wrestling. She insisted on joining Greco-Roman wrestling, showcasing her determination from a young age.
Her skills quickly gained attention, leading to her nickname “Tiger” for her aggressive stance. Videos of her matches went viral on YouTube in 2024, with one particular video amassing 38 million views. The popularity resulted in 12 million rubles in YouTube revenue, but the family has been unable to access it due to monetization issues.
Despite her success, Ellada remains grounded and maintains strong friendships with her peers. However, her dominance in the sport has led to challenges in finding suitable sparring partners, as some male wrestlers have quit training after competing against her. The lack of female wrestlers in her age and weight category has also been a concern. The absence of dedicated women’s freestyle wrestling programs has prompted her mother to advocate for the creation of such initiatives with the Ministry of Sports.
Ellada’s participation in “Super Ninja. Children” came about after producers contacted her due to her unique story. Although she didn’t win, she gained valuable experience and exposure. She aims to return for the next season with the goal of winning and donating half of the prize money to an orphanage, while using the rest to build a wrestling hall at home.
Furthermore, Ellada has been invited to other TV shows and has been cast in Fyodor Bondarchuk’s upcoming film, where she will portray a young athlete. She is also preparing for the Russian Championship in women’s freestyle wrestling, with high hopes of securing a victory.
