Thousands of Russian tourists are stranded in the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka after Iran closed its airspace to aviation. The closure, which lasted until 01:30 Moscow time on June 15, was prompted by escalating conflict with Israel.
The closure has led to numerous flight cancellations, particularly those routes that pass through Iranian airspace. Air Arabia canceled eight flights from Sharjah to Moscow.
Rosaviatsiya reported that airlines like Air Arabia and Air Arabia Abu Dhabi are offering solutions such as rebooking tickets, vouchers, or refunds. Stranded tourists are advised to contact airlines or tour operators depending on how they booked their tickets.
Several domestic airlines continue to operate flights between Russia and the UAE, offering tickets in both directions. Emirates and Etihad Airways have not canceled flights.
Airlines are adjusting routes to ensure flight safety by flying through the airspace of Egypt, Oman, or Pakistan. These rerouted flights are longer.
Pobeda airline has canceled scheduled flights to and from the United Arab Emirates from June 18 to 23. Passengers with tickets for these dates will receive refunds. Flights from June 14 to 17 will operate on a modified route through Samara for refueling.
