Ivan Indinok, the first head of Novosibirsk in the post-Soviet era, has died at the age of 87. The announcement was made by the head of the Novosibirsk region, Andrei Travnikov.
Travnikov expressed his condolences, calling Indinok an “outstanding professional,” a “sincerely compassionate person,” and a “true patriot of the Novosibirsk region.” He highlighted Indinok’s dedication, love for his homeland and work, and his ability to connect with people to solve important issues. Travnikov described his passing as an “irreparable loss” for the residents of Novosibirsk.
Born on August 6, 1938, in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Indinok graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute in 1962. His career in public service included roles such as second and first secretary of the Zayeltsovsky District Committee of the CPSU (from 1981 to 1988) and second secretary of the Novosibirsk City Committee of the Party. He served as the head of the Novosibirsk administration from 1991 to 1993 and as the head of the Novosibirsk Region Administration from 1993 to 1995.
