A woman in Yekaterinburg is facing trial for a series of attacks targeting elderly residents, where she posed as a social worker before robbing them. Galina Manuilova is accused of tying up her victims and using a gas canister during the crimes.
Manuilova’s alleged crimes date back to 2019, including a robbery where she and an accomplice targeted a 99-year-old pensioner, restraining her with a scarf. Later that year, a couple in their 70s were also victimized after Manuilova reportedly told them about a fictitious monetary reform. After finding out where the couple kept their money, she attacked them with a gas canister and stole approximately 600,000 rubles.
In 2020, Manuilova stole 160,000 rubles from a 93-year-old veteran, money that was intended for funeral expenses. She evaded capture for a significant period by hiding in the Chelyabinsk region before authorities apprehended her.
Law enforcement officials say Manuilova spent the stolen money on jewelry, gold, and other luxury items. Her accomplice remains at large. The Ministry of Internal Affairs for Yekaterinburg confirmed that the case against Manuilova has been sent to court. She is charged under Part 2 of Article 161 (“Robbery”) and Part 3 of Article 158 (“Grand Larceny”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and she remains in custody.
