Leningrad Constructivism: An Architectural Walking Tour of St. Petersburg

Six iconic examples of Leningrad Constructivism, reflecting a belief in the industrial future and a rethinking of the urban environment, have been highlighted for an architectural walking tour of St. Petersburg. These locations showcase the unique architectural style that emerged in the city.

Among the key sites is the Power Station of the “Red Banner” Factory, located at Pionerskaya Street, 57. This structure exemplifies the industrial aesthetic characteristic of Constructivism.

Another notable building is the Kirov District Council Building at Stachek Avenue, 18. Its design reflects the movement’s focus on functionality and geometric forms.

The Ushakov Baths “Giant”, situated at Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya Street, 7, is also included. This building showcases a unique application of Constructivist principles in a public bathhouse.

Furthermore, the Water Tower of the “Red Nail Maker” Factory at the 25th Line of Vasilievsky Island, 6, stands as a testament to the industrial ambitions of the era.

The Levashov Bread Factory, found at Barochnaya Street, 4A, represents Constructivism’s influence on functional industrial buildings.
