Nikolai Konashenok, a decorator, has been fined 600,000 rubles and banned from administering websites for two years after being found guilty. The First Western District Military Court announced the verdict on June 11.
The court decided against imprisonment for Konashenok. The initial fine of 800,000 rubles was reduced due to time served in pre-trial detention.
The trial, which began in May 2025, was closed to the public at the request of the defense, citing threats against Konashenok and his family. The court reviewed the case over eight sessions.
Konashenok was detained in March 2024 at Pulkovo Airport while attempting to fly to Armenia. This followed social media posts discussing the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack, which authorities considered potential support for terrorism.
Following his detention, police released a video of Konashenok apologizing, stating, “My words were perceived by a wide audience as support for terrorism. I offer my deepest apologies to everyone. I do not support terrorism; a monstrous crime has been committed.”
Prior to his arrest, Konashenok’s statements on patriotic Telegram channels caused controversy, leading to his wife, Roxana Shatunovskaya, resigning as CEO of New Holland. She stated that her position was untenable given her family member’s “monstrous, inhuman statements.”
Initially, Konashenok was given 14 days of administrative arrest for petty hooliganism. Subsequently, a criminal case was initiated against him for inciting terrorist activity and publicly justifying terrorism.
