Moscow experienced significant traffic congestion today, reaching seven points according to Yandex Maps data, alongside disruptions on a major metro line and planned street closures for a festive event. The Moscow government’s Center for Traffic Management advised drivers to postpone travel until after 7:00 PM or to utilize public transportation.
Commuting from the city center to the northwest is currently estimated to take 55 minutes via public transport, while driving could exceed one hour. Significant congestion was also reported on the Garden Ring.
The city’s Department of Transport previously announced that several key streets would be closed to vehicular traffic from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM today due to a festive event. These closures include Ilyinka Street from Novaya Square to Red Square, Varvarka Street from Staraya Square to Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, and the passage between Ilyinka and Varvarka streets near house number 5 on Red Square.
In addition to the traffic issues, the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line of the Moscow Metro experienced disruptions this morning. Passengers reported waiting up to 10 minutes for a train at the Medvedkovo station, resulting in a crowded platform. The Moscow Metro press service attributed the delay to passengers disembarking from a train at the Medvedkovo station.
