A court in Yekaterinburg has delivered a verdict in a fraud case involving an elite black BMW, originally gifted by blogger Litvin, that was stolen from its 18-year-old owner, Anton. The perpetrator, Ivan Shevtsov, received a suspended sentence for the crime.
Shevtsov was found guilty of defrauding Anton, a resident of Sysert, after stealing the BMW M4 Competition. He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment, suspended with a probationary period of equal length.
The case began in early December 2024 when Shevtsov, a resident of Stavropol, spotted an online advertisement for the BMW, valued at 11.5 million rubles. The car was being sold by Anton, who had received it as a gift from the well-known blogger, Litvin.
Shevtsov contacted Anton, expressing interest in purchasing the vehicle and even made a small advance payment of 10,000 rubles to appear legitimate. A meeting was arranged at a car service in Yekaterinburg on December 11, 2024.
During the meeting, Shevtsov agreed to buy the car for 10 million rubles. The two men signed a contract stipulating that Anton would hand over the keys and documents immediately, while Shevtsov would pay the remaining 9.9 million rubles at a bank a few days later. Trusting the arrangement, Anton complied, handing over the car and its documents.
However, Shevtsov failed to appear at the bank on the agreed-upon date to complete the payment. Anton then reported the incident to the police, leading to a criminal investigation for fraud.
In court, Shevtsov pleaded guilty, compensated Anton for the damages, and apologized for his actions. Anton accepted the apology and requested leniency in the sentencing.
In addition to the suspended sentence, the court imposed restrictions on Shevtsov, including the requirement to notify authorities of any changes to his permanent residence and to report for registration monthly. His previous detention was canceled, and he was released in the courtroom.
The BMW, held as evidence, will be returned to Anton.
