Communists Demand Closure of Yeltsin Center Branch in Moscow

Communist Party members are calling for the closure of the Moscow branch of the “Yeltsin Center,” alleging it promotes anti-Russian propaganda and historical falsification. The demand comes as politicians plan a meeting on Russia Day, June 12, to protest the center’s existence.

The Communist Party of the Russian Federation is advocating for the shutdown of both the Moscow branch and the main Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg. They are urging the protection of historical truth against falsification and the cessation of funding for what they deem anti-Russian projects.

Prior to the Moscow branch’s opening in the fall of 2024, communist deputies had already introduced a bill to the State Duma aimed at preventing its launch. In 2024, they also organized a rally near the site on Malaya Nikitskaya Street, where the center is located within the Dolgorukov-Bobrinsky estate building.

The Moscow branch currently houses a bookstore and two exhibitions. The Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg has been operating since 2015, with prominent figures like Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev attending its opening.

The communists’ grievances extend to the Yeltsin Center’s exhibitions, including one dedicated to the GULAG system in the Soviet Union, which they find objectionable. The Moscow City Committee of the KPRF has appealed to the Investigative Committee to investigate the museum.
