The Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) is demanding the closure of the “Yeltsin Center” branch in Moscow, alleging it promotes anti-Russian propaganda and falsifies history. The CPRF plans to protest in front of the center on Russia Day, June 12.
The communists have three primary demands: the closure of both the Moscow branch and the main Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg, protection of historical truth from falsification, and the cessation of funding for what they deem anti-Russian projects.
The Moscow branch of the “Yeltsin Center” opened in the fall of 2024. Located in the Dolgorukov-Bobrinsky estate, it houses a bookstore and two exhibitions.
Prior to its opening, CPRF deputies attempted to block the museum’s launch. In 2024, they held a rally on Malaya Nikitskaya Street, where the center is located.
The Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg has been operating since 2015. Its opening was attended by prominent figures including Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev.
Separately, the Museum of the History of the GULAG in Moscow has been closed since November 14, 2024, due to fire safety violations. The Moscow Department of Culture stated that the museum will reopen after the issues are resolved.
