Lev Shlosberg, the deputy chairman of the Yabloko party, has been placed under house arrest until August 8 by the Pskov City Court. The decision was made during a closed-door session, according to Pskov Yabloko.
Shlosberg is prohibited from using the internet and telephone communication, except for emergencies. This restriction is part of the terms of his house arrest.
A criminal case has been initiated against Shlosberg for allegedly repeatedly discrediting the army. The case is based on part 1 of article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The investigation stems from a debate between Shlosberg and historian Yuri Pivovarov. Authorities claim that Shlosberg posted a video recording of the discussion on the social network Odnoklassniki on January 12. They allege that the video contained “public actions aimed at undermining the authority of the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.” Shlosberg maintains that he did not post the video and does not manage the page in question.
On the morning of June 10, law enforcement agencies conducted searches at Shlosberg’s residence, his wife Zhanna’s residence, the apartment of his 96-year-old father, Mark Shlosberg, and the premises of the Pskov branch of the Yabloko party. All electronic equipment was seized during the searches.
Shlosberg has previously faced administrative responsibility for discrediting the army twice in 2024. He also faces a criminal case for evading the duties of a foreign agent and for abuse of media freedom. He is designated as a foreign agent by the Ministry of Justice.
