Nuclear Icebreaker “Arktika” Arrives in St. Petersburg for Repairs

The nuclear icebreaker “Arktika” arrived at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg on June 11 for scheduled inter-navigation repairs. The Atomflot vessel will undergo a two-month docking period at the Veleshchinsky dock in Kronstadt.

The primary goal of the docking is to inspect the underwater components of the icebreaker, including the hull, bottom fittings, and propeller-rudder system. Following the inspection, any necessary repairs will be completed.

Chief Engineer of FSUE Atomflot, Vladimir Kondratyev, stated that the inspection is a crucial step in maintaining the vessel’s operational readiness.

This docking is a mandatory procedure required every five years to confirm the vessel’s class with the Russian Maritime Register.

Since February 2025, the “Arktika” has been operating continuously without returning to its home port in Murmansk. During this period, the icebreaker covered 18,218 miles in icy conditions and facilitated the passage of 48 vessels.
