A forest fire has reignited near the village of Verkh-Usugli in the Tungokochensky district of Transbaikalia, prompting a response from local authorities and residents. The blaze, which initially broke out on May 27, has once again become a threat after being seemingly contained.

Over 50 personnel are currently battling the fire, including members of the forest fire service, KGSAU “Zabaikalleskhoz,” forest protection units, the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, local residents, and airborne firefighters. They are utilizing 10 units of specialized equipment to combat the flames.

The initial fire on May 27 originated from dry grass within the village before spreading to an impound lot and subsequently the forest. The ensuing blaze resulted in the destruction of a garage, an impound lot fence, 11 cars, and 5 motorcycles. An early theory suggested children playing with fire may have been the cause, though this remains unconfirmed.

According to eyewitness reports, the renewed outbreak is a crown fire, meaning it is spreading through the tree canopy. The renewed outbreak was unexpected, as the area was reported clear earlier in the day.
