Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has voiced its apprehension regarding the inspection and treatment of its citizens within Russia. The ministry conveyed these concerns during a meeting with Russian officials focusing on migration issues, emphasizing the need for respectful and lawful treatment.
The ministry highlighted reports of unauthorized inspections and discourteous behavior toward Uzbek citizens in Russia. It asserted that such incidents are inconsistent with the friendly relationship between the two nations.
Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry has urged Russian authorities to adhere to international law and human rights standards in their interactions with all individuals. They specifically requested that the Russian Federation ensure Uzbek citizens are treated with respect, and that their honor and dignity are upheld.
A formal note has been sent to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting an official response to the situation. Uzbekistan is seeking a legal evaluation of the actions taken by Russian law enforcement representatives.
While the press release did not detail the exact reasons for Uzbekistan’s concerns, it follows a previous statement from the Agency for External Labor Migration under the Government of Uzbekistan alleging the use of physical force against foreign nationals during a police operation in Moscow on June 8. The agency reported that several individuals were detained during the raid in the Sokolniki district and subsequently deported for migration violations.
