The Northwestern Transport Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into a possible poisoning incident involving passengers aboard the “Yuri Andropov” riverboat. This action follows reports of multiple individuals experiencing digestive issues during a cruise from St. Petersburg to Valaam.
The incident occurred during a cruise organized by the tour operator Vodokhod, which was scheduled to take place from June 9th to 11th, traveling from St. Petersburg to Valaam and back. On the second day of the cruise, several passengers reported feeling unwell and sought medical assistance, exhibiting symptoms indicative of poisoning.
The Transport Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that a compliance inspection is underway to assess adherence to sanitary and epidemiological regulations and to ensure the protection of passenger rights. Furthermore, the Western Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has initiated a pre-investigation check into the matter.
According to a passenger who spoke with Fontanka, the ship’s doctor advised those who sought medical help to follow a specific diet and rest after taking activated charcoal.
