A 79-year-old pensioner was hospitalized with a suspected closed head injury after being struck by a young man riding a rented electric scooter in St. Petersburg. The incident occurred around 12:00 on Tuesday on Slavy Avenue near Hamburg Square.
According to the National Guard, a patrol unit of private security forces noticed the injured pensioner on the sidewalk with a broken face. The young man operating the electric scooter remained at the scene and was detained by officers.
The detainee claimed he attempted to warn the pedestrian by using a sound signal, but the collision could not be avoided.
The individual was taken to the 12th police station for further investigation.
