Concreting of Reactor Building Foundation Completed at Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2 Unit No 4

The foundation for the reactor building of power unit No. 4 at the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2 (LAES-2) has been completed. This marks a significant milestone in the construction of the new unit.

The concrete is currently curing, with reinforcement and pouring of the upper part of the foundation to follow. Subsequent stages will include the construction of walls and floors, as well as the installation of essential equipment. The future building will be 70 meters high.

According to Rosenergoatom, the work was completed at a record pace, surpassing the speed achieved during the construction of block No. 3 a year ago. In 2024, the lower part of the foundation for the reactor building of power unit No. 3 VVER-1200 was concreted in 103 days.

Construction is simultaneously underway on power units No. 3 and No. 4, both featuring VVER-1200 generation III+ reactors. The pouring of the first concrete for the fourth power unit began on March 20 in Sosnovy Bor.

Power unit No. 4 is the final unit of generation 3+ with a water-water power reactor boasting a capacity of 1200 MW, which is intended to replace the LAES power units with channel reactors that have a capacity of 100 MW. The commissioning of units No. 3 and No. 4 is scheduled for 2030 and 2032, respectively. The construction of the third VVER power unit started on March 14 a year prior.
