Construction of M-32 Highway Overpass Begins in St Petersburg

Construction of the M-32 highway overpass in St. Petersburg has commenced, with road workers assembling metal structures for the overpass across Primorsky Highway and the Sestroretsk railway line. This key infrastructure project aims to relieve traffic congestion in the Primorsky district and enhance transport accessibility to new neighborhoods.

The most critical element of the future M-32 highway, a two-level overpass interchange with Primorsky Highway near Lakhta Center, is currently under construction. Bored piles, reaching depths of up to 38 meters, are being installed to support the structure. There will be 23 monolithic reinforced concrete supports, varying in height from 4 to 11 meters.

Seven of these supports are nearing completion, with active work progressing on a total of 11 supports. Retaining walls, ranging from 0.5 to 10 meters in height, are also being constructed to ensure the structure’s reliability under heavy traffic loads.

Since early May, builders have been enlarging and assembling the metal structures of the span at the interchange. The installation of these structures on temporary supports has begun, paving the way for assembly at height.

Governor Alexander Beglov has identified the interchange with Primorsky Highway as one of the most challenging phases of the M-32 highway construction. The construction of the overpass started in January.

The M-32 highway will span 7.73 kilometers, connecting Primorsky Highway near Lakhta Center with the future M-49 highway and linking parts of the district currently separated by the railway. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.

JSC “VAD” was awarded the construction contract in 2022. The estimated cost of the road has risen to almost 24 billion rubles by October 2024.
