Amendments Expand and Modernize Uniforms for Russian Police Officers

The Russian government has updated the decree governing uniforms and insignia for employees of internal affairs bodies, expanding and modernizing the wardrobe for Russian police officers. These amendments, recently published, introduce new items designed for improved comfort and adaptability in various service conditions.

Male officers will receive lightweight dark blue trousers to supplement their existing woolen trousers with stripes. The updated wardrobe also includes two sets of lightweight everyday suits, a kimono (jacket, trousers, belt), and lightweight sports shoes.

Female officers will see changes to their uniforms as well, including an extended dark blue winter jacket with epaulettes, a demi-season jacket, and lightweight dark blue trousers. A woolen garrison cap will replace the woolen cap, and winter and demi-season fur-lined ankle boots will be replaced with standard boots.

The amendments also consider the diverse climatic conditions in which officers serve, providing appropriate footwear based on regional temperatures. Boots with natural fur will be issued in cold climates, while boots with artificial fur will be provided in warmer regions. The previous significant update to the police wardrobe occurred in 2013.
