Russia has eliminated increased import duties on a range of socially important products, according to a decree signed by the Cabinet of Ministers on June 10. This decision aims to ensure the availability and diversity of these essential items within the Russian market.
The measure specifically targets products intended for medical, dietary, and specialized nutrition, originating from countries that have been deemed to violate Russia’s economic interests. These products are vital for individuals with specific health needs, including premature and underweight newborns, as well as those suffering from conditions such as cystic fibrosis, cancer, diabetes, and metabolic disorders.
The government emphasized the critical role of these specialized nutrition products in supporting vulnerable populations. In December, Russia had previously extended increased customs duties on various goods from unfriendly countries until the end of 2025. The Ministry of Industry and Trade had previously defended these duties as an effective economic tool.
