Russian tourists planning summer vacations in Europe and Asia face increasing challenges, including flight disruptions and visa center closures. These issues turn travel into a complex undertaking.

Several airports in the Moscow aviation hub have experienced closures since the beginning of May, causing significant passenger disruptions. Visa acquisition is also becoming more difficult, with the closure of a VFS Global visa center in Murmansk on May 28, which previously processed Schengen visas for Bulgaria, Sweden, Slovenia, and Croatia.

Tourists now need to travel to Moscow, St. Petersburg, or Novorossiysk to apply for Schengen visas. Despite these complications, there is positive news regarding visa regulations between Russia and China, with an agreement to ease visa requirements for group exchanges.

However, individual tourists from Russia are hoping for similar privileges. Experts advise travelers to stay informed about specific visa requirements and transit conditions for each country, as rules may vary.

While some European countries like Greece and Hungary still allow tour operators to submit Schengen visa applications, others, such as Italy, France, and Spain, have suspended tour operator accreditation. This forces tourists to apply independently through official service centers.

Italy has increased document processing times, and France no longer accepts old-style passports. Cyprus now strictly enforces registration requirements for applicants.

Even traditionally popular Asian destinations are tightening entry rules for Russian tourists. Thailand implemented a mandatory electronic arrival card (TDAC) on May 1, requiring all tourists to complete it online before entry, along with providing hotel reservations and return tickets.

The Seychelles, although visa-free, have increased selective control, potentially requiring tourists to demonstrate financial guarantees. Travelers are advised to verify not only visa regulations but also documentation, insurance, and financial guarantee requirements to prevent issues upon arrival.

Georgia will soon require mandatory medical insurance, which is seen as a reasonable step to enhance tourist security and comfort. Many travelers already include insurance as part of their travel preparations, especially when booking package tours.
