Marsel Gasanov is on trial in the Yekaterinburg Regional Court for allegedly holding the highest position in a criminal hierarchy, a violation of Article 210.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The prosecution argues that Gasanov was “crowned” as a leader by prominent figures in the criminal world, Shakro Molodoy and Badri Kutaisky, in September 2024.
The indictment states that Gasanov sought influence, cultivated a strong criminal reputation, controlled the common fund, and enforced criminal traditions. He is also accused of resolving conflicts within pre-trial detention centers, including one in Moscow involving Guliyev and Ismailov in November 2024.
In addition to the primary charge, Gasanov faces accusations of publicly insulting a government official and threatening violence against a detention center employee. He admitted only partially to the threat charge.
Gasanov denies being a criminal authority, claiming he was framed by a former friend who now works for law enforcement. He alleges that this individual, named Igor, was once a trusted acquaintance.
Previously, Gasanov had claimed to have been poisoned in the pre-trial detention center through food, an allegation that the Federal Penitentiary Service has officially refuted.
The prosecution contends that Gasanov’s duties included managing the criminal cash register, promoting criminal traditions, and resolving disputes within the criminal underworld. They cite his discussions about his family, income, and criminal status while at large as evidence.
A search of Gasanov’s residence reportedly uncovered an engraved ring bearing a thief’s star, inscribed with his name and a message from individuals named Ilya and Vova.
Gasanov maintains that the case against him is fabricated by someone with whom he had a disagreement and that the evidence is limited to messages.
Gasanov previously attracted media attention for his involvement in a gathering of criminal figures on Yumashev Street, a shootout at a car wash, and disputes in Sysert. He was briefly detained in October 2023 but quickly released.
