Alexander Pushnoy, a well-known artist, recently shared nostalgic memories of his alma mater in Novosibirsk, reflecting on the emotions stirred by the transformation of the school where he spent his formative years. The artist, who was in Novosibirsk last week as a special guest, recounted his visit to the school several years ago, a place that held immense personal significance for him.
During his visit to his old school, Pushnoy experienced a wave of emotions upon finding the building deserted. “I entered, the school was empty, there were no people, and it overwhelmed me so much. I studied here for all 10 years, from the first grade,” he said, describing the powerful connection he felt to the familiar corridors, stairs, classrooms, and assembly hall.
He recalled a previous visit where the headmistress, whom he described as a wonderful woman, jokingly offered him cognac, a stark contrast to their earlier interactions when she threatened to expel him for misbehavior.
Pushnoy attended School No. 25, which later became Gymnasium No. 3. The original school building was demolished in 2020, and a new, modern facility was constructed in its place by 2022, featuring two blocks, a laboratory, and a creative studio.
While pleased that the current students have access to a state-of-the-art learning environment, Pushnoy expressed a sense of melancholy, acknowledging that he would no longer be able to revisit the specific spots and handrails that held cherished memories from his childhood.
