Supporters of summer attire argued that those who disapprove can wear warmer clothing themselves, suggesting that t-shirts and shorts are acceptable in hot weather if they are not too revealing. Some believe that dressing lighter allows people to enjoy the weather, as long as the corporate culture permits it and the outfit looks appropriate.

Critics of beachwear in the office cited etiquette and professional image. One reader compared wearing revealing clothing to wearing a fur coat to the beach or having dinner with relatives in underwear. They suggest that closed, loose-fitting clothing made of natural materials is more appropriate for hot weather, emphasizing air circulation over revealing outfits. Some readers expressed discomfort at the thought of colleagues wearing short shorts and tops to work.
